Mission Statement The Painted Turtle is a year-round camp serving children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The mission of the organization is to inspire these campers, through weekend and week-long camp sessions, to become their greater selves.
Volunteer Duties The Painted Turtle is looking for volunteer counselors to work during spring/fall family weekends and week-long summer sessions. Each session serves a different population of campers facing chronic or serious medical conditions. Volunteers can work in a variety of areas serve as cabin counselors over the summer or as family pals for a weekend, guiding campers and families through our variety of camp activities including a wheelchair-accessible ropes course, archery, arts & crafts, horseback riding, fishing, boating, and more! Lodging and meals are provided while volunteers are at camp. The camp is located 60 miles NE of Los Angeles, and transportation from LAX can be arranged. Volunteers must be 19 years of age, and may be from any state or country. Experience with children, in a hospital setting, or in a camp setting is a plus. This is an overnight volunteer opportunity for either the spring/fall weekends (Friday afternoon-Sunday afternoon) or a full week in the summer (6-7 day commitments).
